According to data published by the European Commission at the end of November 2018, poultry meat production in the European Union is increasing for the next year in a row.[1]. European poultry is also becoming increasingly popular outside the Community, as evidenced by growing exports. At the same time, a slight decrease in imports of poultry to the EU was recorded for the next year in a row.

In the period from January to July, there was an average increase in the production of poultry meat by 3.9% compared to the same period of 2017. In Bulgaria, Hungary and Romania, producers can boast of a more than 10% increase in production in 2018. Poland remains the largest poultry producer in the European Union, corresponding to 16% of EU production. The following places are taken by Great Britain, France and Spain.

The main exporting countries for poultry on the EU market in the period from January to September 2018 were Thailand and Brazil. China was also in the top five with a 27% increase in exports.

The main export market in the period from January to September 2018 remained Ukraine, followed by Ghana and the Philippines. On the other hand, the biggest increase in interest in European poultry, including those produced in the QAFP (Quality Assurance for Food Products) quality system expressed Vietnam in 2018 – by 63%. In connection with outbreaks of highly pathogenic avian influenza in most EU countries at the turn of 2016 and 2017, the Chinese market was closed to countries with export licences. However, at the end of September 2018, China reopened to poultry meat from one of the European Union countries – Poland.

Increasing the export of European poultry bearing the QAFP quality mark to the market of China, building awareness of the QAFP quality system and maintaining interest in these products on the Chinese market is the main goal of the three-year promotional and information campaign entitled „QAFP”. „European poultry – power of quality’.

„We hope that the EU campaign promoting European poultry on the Chinese market, among others, which has been running for almost three years, will contribute to the effective return of EU poultry, including QAFP-produced poultry, to the market of the Middle Kingdom, after removing administrative barriers, as in the case of Poland. Contacts with our potential partners on the Chinese side have shown that poultry meat from the European Union enjoys high recognition, but also reputation and prestige. Full safety is our advantage and thanks to the use of quality systems such as QAFP, we can offer high and repeatable quality of European poultry,” says Łukasz Dominiak, General Director of the National Council for Poultry – Chamber of Commerce, the largest Polish trade association of poultry breeders and producers, who is also the organizer of the campaign.
